Is there a place for noise gates in the digital world?

Hi

I've put together a study text on noise gates for my free sound engineering course. Find it here.

But as I was documenting it, I realised much of what I was saying related to the noisy analogue world as it was.

Do you think noise gates are still needed in today's noise free, digital domain, that DAWs occupy?

Would love to know what you think. Post comments below or e-mail me.

Do you use noise gates?

It's interesting to see that the 'Noise Gate' is a noticeable exception from the channel strip in Harrison Mixbus - the DAW that prides itself on giving you everything you need to mix straight out the box.

Have noise gates had their day. What do you think?

Have fun
